Piano Lessons For Children
Children love learning. As a music teacher, I've had great pleasure in teaching piano and curriculum music to all ages and abilities.
I strongly believe that learning to play the piano can profoundly affect children both socially, creatively, physically and emotionally. Oh, did I mention that they also enjoy it ;-)
Mind-enriching activities can give kids an advantage over their peers if they start at any early age when their brains are still developing. The piano is a great example of such an activity.
Piano lessons for children can be expensive. Here in the UK, I've seen state instrumental lessons go from 'free' to what I might call 'moderately priced'. However, we are living through a recession and so this kind of tuition often gets cut back by parents. Private piano lessons are even more expensive. This is a shame as the benefits are profound.
Having said that, a good piano teacher, with many years teaching experience, is worth his/her weight in gold.
A cost-effective way to continue to enrich their education is via online piano lessons for children. Kids are naturally attracted to computers (not always for the right reasons!) so this is ideal and is a viable, cost-effective alternative to private piano lessons.
Many people look for free online music lessons and cheap piano lessons, but I would suggest signing up with one of the more reputable companies, spend a little money gauging whether your child is enjoying the tuition and then make a decision whether to continue the subscription or call it a day.
Once they have a basic musical knowledge and grounding in piano techniques, then you might want to consider private music tuition.
Apart from exposing your child to wonderful music composed over the last few centuries, piano lessons for kids have proven to fortify your child's brain, develop better hand and eye coordination. In fact, in my experience, kids simply do better in school as a result. Piano playing requires their full attention and thus helps with concentration in other subject areas.
Playing the piano keyboard forces children to make fast interpretations and decisions of the music score.
My parents made me play for all their friends and relatives - so there are disadvantages!
But at the end of the day, it provided me with a career, a way to de-stress AND a lifelong love of music.
Not bad, I think!
